LO2-Conventions of an ident- (P2)

CHANNEL 4 CONVENTIONS:

One of the main conventions of an ident is the fact that they need something unique that allows there to be representation and recognition within the ident. This channels name is channel 4, therefore within every ident there is a repetitive reoccurrence of the number 4. There is no set duration, meaning that the idents are usually short however there are longer ones where the channel may be introducing the upcoming program to the audience which takes longer than an average ident that is also shown. This informs the audience of what to expect on what to expect next, the name and genre and when it is exactly starting so the audience have a better understanding if it's the program they would wish for and if not, they can come back to the channel later on when the other shows are on. There is also information throughout the day within indents and adverts on what shows are on later or the next few days at different days, which is useful to the audience and satisfies them. One thing I looked highly upon was the fact that the ident in 2020 simply because they had adapted their ident to the environmental crisis of covid-19. This was shown when they added the #stayathome and show the channel 4 roaming the earth by itself, showing that the earth needs to look like there's no one on it because of isolation.

LO2- History of your channel and its ident- (P2)

 History of Channel 4:

Channel 4 was created in 1982, on the 2nd of November. it has been at the centre of national conversations and a catalyst for the creation of a world beating production sector in the Uk. Channel 4 has turned its brand logo green to promote the rebrand of streaming service all 4.The first thing the program had aired is a gameshow countdown and presenter Richard Whitely starts by saying "as the countdown to a brand-new channel end, a brand-new countdown begins. This show is quite sentimental to the channel in itself hence why they even continue to air till this day on the channel.

Different indents within different eras:

1985:

This first ident demonstrates what channel they are representing which is clearly shown. channel 4 has the number 4 in the idents and logo at all times and clearly has always been like this. The audience have a clear demonstration that they are on the correct channel, and it is simple and snappy. This allows the consumers to remember the channel easily and remember that their favourite show may be on channel 4.

2000:

This ident in this video has more of a transition then the ident that was made in 1985. The ident has even developed putting in the channel's website(channel4.com). The purpose of this ident is to represent the channel and the brand and also promote the website. the website would not have been like the websites we look at now but rather have the most critical information on it that needs to be presented to the viewers.

2020:

This ident is less about showing the channels name in itself but mainly about showing the audience that there has been so much development. One pure example is the animation of channel 4s figure. it has always just been a number but in this case channel 4 has turned into a walking figure. It shows the outside world and different environments and how the figure is alone, they sponsor the #stayathome movement which may be why the figure is roaming the world as one.

2023:

This ident represents not the channel in itself but rather how much of a variety of genres they play on the channel. it is clearly demonstrated that they aren't a narrow television program and rather try ad fit everyone's interests in. I think it is very important to express that within showing the channel name because people wont have to know much whilst flicking through but rather, they will know that it is a open channel where you are bound to find a film, documentary or series interesting.

LO2- Initial research into audio visual products- (P2)

Two Freeview channels:

1)ITV 1

2)Channel 4

ITV 1 is a channel that is owned by a British media company and broadcasts thrilling drama, the nation's favourite soaps, unmissable events and the biggest family entertainment. On this channel, the type of programs they show are news or informative channels such as "Good morning, Britain" or "ITV evening news". however, they also show entertaining programs such as "secrets of the Krays" which is a Documentary and crime that explores how the twins became increasingly famous and feared. therefore, the channel has quiet a variety of different categories.

The most appropriate age range for ITV 1 is 16–34-year-olds evidently from 2020, where it was the most watched channels. In 2022, ITV 1 had published their biggest drama which was Trigger point.
This drama had hit 11 million viewers watching the first episode, it averaged 9.5 million viewers across its 6-week run.  The second big hits is another drama called The Thief, his wife and the canoe, this is the second dram to exceed 10 million viewers in 2020. Overall, this evidence gathers that one aspect of the target audience is that Drama on ITV 1 is what suits the target audience best as it is what the consumers enjoy the most.

Channel 4 is a British public service broadcaster that was established in 1982 to provide a fourth national television service in addition to the two BBC services and ITV 1 and 2. Unlike some of the BBC,ITV or Sky, channel 4 doesn't make any programmes in house. instead, it commissions them from the UKs many Tv production companies. Despite that, Channel 4 presents different programs such as Animations, breakfast, comedy or even for children. One example is Gogglebox, which is comedy and entertainment. Another example is the great British bake off, this is entertainment and competition.

In comparison to ITV 1, Channel 4's most appropriate target audience is 16-34. As we can see that it is the same. This is because the channels both have the same aim and objectives. This is proven purely because of the genre and what they present on the channel. Channel 4 has a variety of different genres and documentaries that ITV 1 has but ITV has also got the aspect of having different genres and specific audiences.

As mentioned many times before, channel 4 has the logo as a 4 which demonstrates the several genres they have and present on tv. the channel is trying to project this onto the audience so they know its not just set for one particular audience or just show on tv one particular genre. On the other hand, the Itv1 logo is more sophisticated and elegant therefore, it demonstrates that the variety will be less open for audiences preference and more straight to what the channel does best, Presenting British news and good morning shows to evening British shows such as loose women(all though its about feminism) its all around British content.

Itv1 current ident:

During the ident you can see a child and parent enjoying playing with a kite that turns into loads of kites, this demonstrates to the audience that it is for a niche audience however as any enjoyable aspects. the channels are represented by several kites and the audience is represented by the parent and child, this also factors in the overall purpose of the ident. To ensure the audience that they will receive what they expect and ask for.

Channel 4 ident:

During this ident you can hear what channels and what is up next along with her soothing voice, in the video process you can see the number 4 logo moving from aura to aura which conveys to the audience all the different programs have different meanings, impacts and genres. This also factors in the overall purpose of the ident. To ensure the audience that they will receive what they expect and ask for, the different genres, different moods and different settings within the channel.

LO1- Understand the purpose of audio-visual promos (P1,M1,D1)

Music promo: MYSELF- LAYTON GREENE-P1

I chose this music video because it is deep and straight to the point. As soon as you listen to the lyric you understand that it is a girl that is suffering and feeling pain. This music video informs and educates the audience of the down sides of relationships and how it affects you mentally and physically. As you can see during the music video at 1:02 - 1:19. she says, "I loved you when I didn't love myself, said you loved me, but you only loved yourself". This educated the listeners that you should never allow your happiness to depend on anyone else and that just because you may put someone before yourself doesn't mean they will ever do that in return. This also is published to be an eye opener.

Target audience:
Age: Any age from teenagers +
gender: Mainly aimed at females.
Interests: Heartbreak
location: Globally
Ethnicity: All Ethnicity

AGILE SUMMARY:
The reasons why I put the age as teenagers plus is because the song is about heartbreak, relationships and feelings. In my opinion, teenagers are suitable for young relationships hence why I feel it is appropriate for them and relating may set them at ease. The song is also about body insecurities and stuff young teenagers most likely struggle with which is why I feel it is good for teenagers to also listen to know that they aren't alone when it comes to bodies and society. I picked the gender as mainly girls because the artist is a female and she talks about her body insecurities and her heartbreak and hating that man, although men can listen, the song is more relatable to females.

CODES OF CONVENTIONS:M1
In myself music video there is a scene in the beginning where the main character is crying her eye out which is portrayed with her black mascara smuggled down from her eyes to her chin at 0:25. this backs the whole heartbreak atmosphere and allows there to be knowledge about the song before its even started and it also causes the audience to emphasis with the girl. its a music video which means they need to promote what the song is about and seen as its about heartbreak and failed relationships, its strongly shown throughout. At 0:31, it shows the girl Infront of a mirror trying to cover her body which reflects on society and the conflicts between reality and a filtered life (what people want you to see and not how they actually are).

Analysis: D1
This music video connotes that the artist is representing herself to the community she is trying to target, and, in this case, it is dumb youthful love and body imperfections. This may make the artist look weak in certain areas as everyone says songs come from a deep place in the heart and down where you may burry things sometimes, this may lead to a complex problem within the artist. the music video conveys meaning by simply having to watch the music video with the facial expressions, the body language, the words and the attitude within it. In my opinion, I believe that she was very successful with the way she portrayed her emotions and developed and presented her feelings and what she was trying to say across to the consumers in the best possible way she could have done, and the music video was very successful. The narrative is Leyton singing her heart out and expressing her feelings and the vibes she wants to convey everyone. During the very start of the music video, you can his distinct and Suttle music playing in the backgrounds as if it's played on a phone which also indicates to the audience that it is and will be a music video. You can also see that the conversation the couple have isn't healthy which is shown as she has to keep warning him to stick around. The music video is a negative which is also shown as the first thing we see when the actual music of the music starts playing at 0:26, is Leyton crying with mascara down her face.

Trailor for film: BLUE LEGOON-P1

This Trailor leads up to two teenagers that end up deserted on an island in the south pacific. This film Trailor informs and sells the product. This is because a Trailor is created to lure consumers to find the desire to watch the full film and once that is done, he films gets the publicity it needs whilst also increasing there revenue. The obstacles the teenagers face starts from 0:53, this is where the Trailor starts to intrigue and draw the potential consumers in as this is where things turn sideways.

Target audience:
Age:17+
Gender: Both
Interest: Adventure and sexual maturity
location: south pacific
Ethnicity: All types

AGILE SUMMARY:
The reason why I suggested Adventure and sexual maturity is because in the blue Lagoon, the two teenagers go on holiday which is an adventure in itself but then having found themselves deserted on an unknown island is where their whole adventure began. The sexual maturity was introduced where they started making jokes to the nerdy teenage girl that they tried to get her out of our shell however was properly introduced when her and her savvier deserted on the island with nothing or no one else around them.
CODES OF CONVENTIONS:M1
In this Trailor at 0:50 you can see the teenage girl getting upset as she watches someone her friends plan for her to hook up with having sexual interaction with another girl which led her to the main point in the story which is at 0:54. At 1:07, the audience can feel the suspense as the fear is slowly unravelled from the tone of voice. 1:20 she says "what do you think is out there" then the audience can sense that it is not a familiar place and is most likely not safe, then hearing the teenage school friend having to reassure her indicated to the audience that things aren't going to go as planned because neither does he know what's out there awaiting them.

Analysis: D
The artist that created this film Trailor wanted it to be a type of fantasy film for teenagers as it may seem like a wish to some young kids. To evaluate my point further, teenagers from a young age are very hormonal. This film is about growing up within a school with classmates and coming to the age of interest in relationships, this means when teenagers are watching The Blue Lagoon, they fantasy themselves about getting deserted on an island with someone they like, getting intimate to then getting saved at one point down the line. Therefore, the artist done well when structuring the layout of the Trailor and film for that matter. It Conveys the meaning of the plot very well, The artist done a great job by adding the fact the boy hardly feels like his dad doesn't pay attention or love him and, in the end when they get saved and brought back, it was a very heart felt and deep message that was conveyed that no matter what happens you will always have that parent who loves you behind closed doors and that doesn't act upon it. The narrative starts with the sound of an alarm clock going off to then music straight away with the audio of the girl's mum saying, "Bye sweetie, I love you.". Straight away the vibes are going well and makes the audience feel giddy as well. The music gradually gets louder and more upbeat which confirms the vibes being positive. However, Contrastingly, at 0:55. Everything goes downhill which is shown when the muisc stops and then other plays with a sinister vibe to it. Without knowing what the scene is, people would still be able to understand something has gone wrong.

Trailor for tv program: THE NEXT STEP-P1

As soon as this the next step Trailor begins you can feel the energy whilst all the main character dance away and show their strengths and skills and sums up their team skills in the end when they stand together. This Tv program entertains and sells the show which is demonstrated during 0:31. this scene specifically because it shows the audience that there is competition and battle within dance moves and dancing and not only that positive factor, but it shows what the next step is all about.

Target audience:
Age: 9+
Gender: Both
Interest: Dancing, entertainment and drama
location: Toronto +
Ethnicity: Any

AGILE SUMMARY:
The reason I put ethnicity as any is because the next step has characters of different backgrounds and ethnicities which means it is suitable to all, it's just a language barrier that would intervene but anyone and everyone can watch the next step if they wish too. One reason I had done the age as 9+ is because no matter what age, the characters aren't doing anything inappropriate and are mainly dancing and in conflict with the other teams. they even have another dance group within the next step, but they are younger children.

CODES OF CONVENTIONS:M1
At 0:06, you can see 6 dancers in a dance position all smiling that everything is how they want it to be an doing successful. This indicates to the audience that they are going to do well in their competition and sets a positive atmosphere all around. 0:08 shows that nope, there is issues within the group of girls which indicates to the audience that there is dram and obstacles which gets the audience excited and reassured that there will be a very entertaining side to the next step.

Analysis: D1
The next step is a dancing show which is stated very obviously and in my opinion the artist done an amazing job by the Trailor seen as the audience is informed that the whole series is based on dance. The narrative has the dance song in the background and along with the audience getting hit with all the dancers starting to dance at the beginning of the ident as well as the dance music just informs the whole audience what the show will be about. therefore, any of the audience watching will know if they will enjoy the series or not considering if they like watching people dance or not. This is very importantly portrayed as the whole series is based on the dance competition so not having the audience know that before will be time wasting and will lead to bad reviews. this is because if the Trailor had hardly any dance moves and just introducing the characters and the settings the audience wouldn't realise how much dance has a part to play in the series, without the dance lessons and studio there would not be the next step.

Trailor for game: FORTNITE -P1

Fortnite is a global and very popular game since it was published and sold. Whilst watching the Game Trailor you can instantly see what the game is about. At 0:06, we can all see that every player is an individual character that will most likely be playing against which is confirmed at 0:19. This game Trailor informs, educated and sells the product to the audience seen as it shows what the game is bout, how it will be laid/played out and allows there to be an opinion before purchasing the game to see if they would be interested or like the sound of it which is why it is under them three categories.

Targeted audience:
Age: 12+
Gender: Both
Interest: Gaming solo or with online people/friends
Location: United States of America, Uk, global
Ethnicity: Any

AGILE SUMMARY:
The reason I picked the location being United States is because Tim sweeney had created Fortnite in America but wants the game to be global which is why I put the Uk as well seen as everyone has a right to play the game seen as it is a global game. I put the interest as Gaming solo, with people online or friends that you have added because that is what you do within the whole time you are playing. by having the options of how to play interests the children even more as it will not always the same game that they have to play, and they find amusements in more than one way.

CODES AND CONVENTIONS:M1
During the Trailor, the audience can see that there is a lot of action and players. this is shown where everyone jumps out of the transport bus into the air. the second area where it shows the audience that there will be action and entertainment s where it makes them feel adrenaline as people playing online are shooting and versing each other as they get killed one by one. The music from the beginning sets the atmosphere of excitement and adventure. The viewers feel as if they are in the game playing themselves as they hear the music get more intense and the shooting and killings are getting more and more increased.

Analysis: D1
The artist represents that he wants to create a game that is enjoyable to every audience member that is interested by people who play online games or children that want to start playing. in my opinion the advert shows the best qualities of Fortnite such as having loads of group match, singular match, different guns and different qualities that are beneficial to win. The narrative of the Trailor is a way to lure the audience in as Fortnite done a great job by showing what the game is really about. From the map of where people can jump off to showing how you can aim and kill other players. At 0:1, the Trailor establishes that it is for teens and shows violence, which already indicates that it is a game Trailor with the way it is layed out. The narrative adds the energetic music in which makes the audiences adrenaline start pumping and excites them.

Trailor for animation: ENCANTO -P1

During the Trailor of Encanto we can see at 0:10, Abuela introduced that the house is filled with magic soon after proved in 0:15. This informs and sells the animated film the to audience because it shows it is appropriate and enjoyable to children and it shows what the film is roughly based about (magic and the candle). The Trailor proves itself that it is a kid friendly and lovely obstacles film for the children and parents to watch together.
Target audience:
Age: PG
Gender: Both
Interest: Magic
Location: Colombia
Ethnicity: Colombian

AGILE SUMMARY:
One reason why I chose the Interest to being magic is because the whole entire film is based on magical house and a magical girl with her powers that are not yet discovered, yet the magic turns negative, and she saves everyone from the magic. One reason why I set ethnicity as Colombian is because it is quiet culturally inherited although everyone can watch it and enjoy it the same way. it is an automatic recognition that there is a Colombian background involved seen as even the characters have ethnic names such as Abuela.

CODES AND CONVENTONS:M1
During 0:11, the audience can see the aspect of magic as it spreads in a circle in a field like setting. The magic spreading also indicates to the audience that the magic is increasing and spreading every second which later on in the Trailor is portrayed as the bad thing as the negative impact on all off the characters gifts are affected by the magic and not in a good positive way. at 0:40. she explains that she hasn't got gift like the others such as being "effortlessly perfect ". This shows the viewers that already the magic is being tampered with or not in the conditions it should be seen as everyone but her has a gift which shows the audience that again there will be obstacles along the way that'll face them.

Analysis: D1
I love the magical aspect; I think it enhances the whole point of the movie and enhances the fact that is made for children. The narrative shows that it is a perfect magically story that any child and even young teens would enjoy just because of the charters, the magic, the comedy of ethnicity shining through and the way they lay out the Trailor and the animations through. Encanto is a film that would be enjoyable to even parents which is what is shown in the Trailor, it's a film that wouldn't be a nightmare or a drag that they feel they have to endure for the children sake.

I NEED TO ADD:
TALK ABOUT TECHNICAL QUALITIES MESSAGES AND NARRATIVE

One tv ident: CBBC HALLOWEEN INDENT 2022-P1

This indent represents the festive season that they were in and in this case, it is Halloween. This indent has four Halloween characters that represent each element which is C B B C which is shown during 0:07 as the three characters are walking by to get to their destination which is the channel. This Trailor educates the audience as it also allows there to be a constant reassurance and reminder of what channel you are on and get the audience excited of the festive season that awaits us.

Target audience:
Age: 6+
Gender: Both
Interest: Entertainment and amusement within shows /films and documentaries
Location: Broadcasting house in London.
Ethnicity: Any

AGILE SUMMARY:
One reason why I put the location as broadcasting house in London is because the BBC is headquartered here. This channel is only available for the people that live and have a tv in the Uk. therefore, it most appropriates for the location to be London as it is the only country that BBC concerns. One reason I picked any for ethnicity is because yes it may be for London only, but it is filled with people from different ethnic backgrounds and cultures.

CODES OF CONVENTONS:M1
At 0:03, we can see a hand coming from underground which tells the audience that it is spooky season which is already indicated at the very first second of the indent seen as it is Halloween decorated and has the three characters dressed up looking scary roaming the earth to get to their destination. The props used such as swards indicated the Halloween consumers, and the pumpkin shows that it is Halloween season. The indent is quite self-explanatory.

Analysis: D1
This indent is appropriate for all viewers that enjoy the festive spirit of Halloween; however, every ethnicity would watch meaning there are some parents that may not want their child growing up in the Halloween festive spirit because it may be against their religion or just wises in general. therefore, I feel that the indent is aesthetically pleasing but should be reconsidered with how much Halloween content and indents they may produce. This ident also informs the audience that it is officially the season of Halloween and gets everyone in the festive mood. The narrative shows that it is Halloween feasted by the props and editing of the location the four figures are walking through which is also a great way to generate new ideas for people to dress up as for Halloween.

P1:Defining Audio Visuals Promos

One of the first priorities of media companies is to ensure that they are building and expanded their reputation and business by promoting it. Media companies think outside of the box and try raise the attention of the product that they are going to launch or even relaunch. By doing that we have entered a way to gain the target audiences attention which is all accomplished by using Audio Visuals Promo.

The whole purpose of Audio Visuals Promos is to help advertise and introduce to society, the new products or even updated and adjusted products. Audio visuals promos is an essential element to ensure its successful. if the audio-visual promo is not completed at a high standard, then that risks the reputation of the company and also leads to loosing viewers and interest within even the loyal consumers.

One example of an Audio visuals promos is Star Wars: The Force Awakening. There first teaser Trailor was a year before they had actually launched and by doing so, they have presented a new character that'll be featured in the film. they had also shown specific familiar things in the Trailor to also issue a recognisable symbol from the previous Star Wars films. In comparison, there was a second Trailor which gave in more details about what the film will be and with more main characters represented.

Evaluation
